Breakfast Ideas for Those On-The-Go!
In our very busy lives, we often forget to schedule in time to nourish ourselves as we begin each day. Following, you will find a compilation of delicious--and fast!--breakfast ideas. Mix n' Match and change 'em up to fit your flavor preferences...but please: EAT BREAKFAST!
To Drink:
-Hot tea with honey (Delicious teas for early in the day: Lady Grey, English Breakfast or Celestial Seasonings assorted fruit blends)
-Coffee: Steaming or Iced, Black or White, Strong or Sweet…savor it and go!
-Fruit smoothie: mixing yogurt, ice and fresh fruit works best…throw your favorite combination into a food processor and top with a dollop of whipped cream. *Strawberry/Banana combo is tried and true.
To Eat:
(Prep time: 5 minutes or less)
-Hearty Country Oat or Whole Grain bread toasted with butter & jam (blackberry and raspberry jams both provide a nice balance of sweet and tart).
-Yogurt with honey, fresh berries and granola. (Low-fat, Greek-style plain yogurt= a thick and luxurious eating experience!)
-Oatmeal with honey or brown sugar and raisins. Super fast, and super cozy on a cold morning.
-Good, old-fashioned cereal & low-fat milk. Personal favorites: Rice Crispies, Raisin Bran, Cheerios, Grape nuts (great with banana slices), and for a sweeter splurge: strawberry frosted mini-wheats
-Toasted English muffin with peanut butter
-Toasted bread with avocado slices and a lightly melted slice of Muenster cheese on top
-Turkey sausage patty with one slice of melted Chedder Cheese on a toasted English Muffin
-A halved grapefruit and a handful of nuts. (Almonds are flavorful & complement the citrus).
-Bowl of low-fat Cottage cheese with Cantaloupe cubes
-Sliced apple or banana with crunchy peanut butter (granny smith apples are deliciously crisp!). To make this even better: pair the apple and peanut butter with a side of string cheese. It provides an extra punch of protein and makes for a surprisingly tasty combination.
-Fruit & yogurt parfait (Use strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, banana slices, blueberries, peach slices, etc...whatever is in season!). Alternate the layers of yogurt and fruit and then top with granola for a little crunch.
(Prep time: 5-10 min):
-Breakfast Tortilla: scrambled egg, a little shredded Cheddar or Havarti cheese, tomato & onion in a tortilla wrap (white or whole wheat, whichever is preferred).
-Simple scrambled eggs with a side of sauteed potato and onion “hash” in Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
-Chocolate chip pancakes with fresh fruit (seasonal) and honey or syrup. *I do not particularly enjoy maple syrup. Honey provides a similar texture while being more attuned to my taste buds.
-Hard-boiled egg sliced in quarters, with a sprinkle of salt and pepper to flavor
